Just 19km of the coast of Playa Del Carmen is a coral island, called Cozumel. Cozumel is a limestone plateau of 392 km², 56 km long and 14 km large. It is the oldest island of the Caribbean group and the biggest island of Mexico. Since 1961, when Jacques Cousteau broadcasted “Cozumel’s glorious sealife” Cozumel has been a favorite destination for divers.
Cozumel is known as one f the best dive spots in the world. More then 250 000 visitors come to the island every year.
“Diving in Cozumel is great! I’ve seen a turtle and a nurse shark on every dive. Diving on the wall is a lot of fun. A lot of reefs collapsed and formed arches. The dives consist on letting you go with the drift and swimming through the many swim troughs while admiring the rich marine life and splendid corals. Try to spot the huge lobsters!”
“The lion fish is the biggest predator in these Caribbean waters, the biggest problem is that he has no predator! Feel like starting a lion fish aquarium business here, there is something possible.”
